Disappointment in Poland: "Must reverse catastrophic trend"
The US decision to withdraw 5,000 troops from Germany worries Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. In a post on X, he writes that the biggest threat to NATO is not the alliance's enemies but "the ongoing disintegration."
"We must all do what is necessary to reverse this catastrophic trend."
The US decision was made after Donald Trump directed his anger at Germany, partly because Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that the US was being humiliated by Iran in negotiations between the countries.
US source: Europe is not listening - this is the result
The US decision to withdraw 5,000 troops from Germany follows Donald Trump's ambition to focus less on Europe and more on the Western Hemisphere, a Pentagon source tells the Washington Post.
The US has urged Europe to build a “businesslike” NATO led by Europe, the source says.
“They didn’t listen, and this is the result.”
The source also says that statements by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz about the US war in Iran were inappropriate, but it is not clear whether that influenced the decision.
