Trump's tariff policy
Trump: Raises tariffs on cars and trucks against Europe

Donald Trump is threatening the EU with 25 percent tariffs on cars and trucks imported into the US. In a post on his own platform Truth Social, he writes that such tariffs will be introduced next week because, according to the US president, the EU is not following their "fully agreed upon trade agreement".

"It is fully understood and agreed that, if they produce cars and trucks in factories in the US, there will be no tariffs", he writes.

Trump does not provide further details on how he believes the EU has violated the agreement reached in July last year.

EU summit sees off tariff game: "Unacceptable behavior"

European Parliament member Bernd Lange hits back at Donald Trump after his proposal to raise vehicle tariffs against the Union to 25 percent, Reuters reports.

– President Trump’s behavior is unacceptable, Lange, who chairs the EU Parliament’s trade committee, told the news agency.

Trump’s latest move “demonstrates exactly how unreliable” the American side is, he added, pointing to the Greenland conflict as another example.

Trump promises “revolution” for low-income earners

Donald Trump has signed a presidential order that will make it easier for Americans to start private pension savings, several American media outlets report.

In practice, it is a digital database where Americans can compare different options for savings.

The order is described as a way to market a reform from 2022, which means that the American government will start to pay extra money to people with low incomes who save for retirement at the turn of the year. The bill was originally presented by Joe Biden but has been taken over by Donald Trump.

– For millions of Americans whose employers do not offer retirement provisions, this will truly be revolutionary, because they will be covered, Trump said on Thursday evening, Swedish time.

According to Semafor, the initiative could be a way for Donald Trump to show that he takes the American cost of living seriously ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.
