A major fire has broken out in a building in London.
Two people have been taken to hospital and over 100 residents have had to evacuate.
More than 200 firefighters have been called to the scene, British media reports.
A building in Dagenham, east London, caught fire overnight on Monday. Around 225 firefighters and several ambulances have rushed to the scene, reports Sky News.
Over 100 people have had to evacuate and two people have been taken to hospital, writes the BBC.
A large search operation is now underway in the building.
"The fire is causing heavy smoke and we urge residents in the area to close windows and doors," station commander Alan Bendell told the news agency.
Known fire hazards
There must be residences and business activities in the building, which is known to have "several fire risks" according to the emergency services.Dinesh Raj received a call in the middle of the night that the house was on fire. He then had to rush there to pick up his six-year-old daughter, who was sleeping over with a friend.
- They started smelling smoke around 3 o'clock and understood that there was a fire, he tells Sky News and continues:
- I managed to bring my daughter and friends home with me. They are safe now.
The building is undergoing a facade renovation on the fifth and sixth floors, where the fire broke out. But it is still unclear what caused it.
Firefighters on site have been battling the flames since Monday night.
