The elections in Venezuela
Opposition leaders are called for questioning by the state prosecutor

Venezuela's state prosecutor is summoning opposition leader Edmundo González for questioning as part of an investigation into the opposition's actions after the disputed presidential election in July, AP writes.

Gonzáles will be allowed to "state his responsibility" for the website where the opposition published documents showing that they won by a wide margin, says the state prosecutor. The state attorney general is widely seen as an ally of incumbent President Nicolás Maduro.

According to official election results, Maduro won, but this has been contested by the opposition as well as the United States, the European Union and a number of other South American countries. Both sides declaring themselves winners has led to unrest that claimed 25 lives and injured nearly 200 people.

Postcard written in 1903 has finally arrived

A postcard sent in 1903 has finally arrived - 121 years too late. This is reported by several media.

The postcard came to the bank Swansea building society in Welsh Swansea and was addressed to Lydia Davies who lived in the house in 1903.

The postcard is written by a man named Evert. The front of the postcard has a Christmas motif with a cartoon reindeer in a winter landscape. Evert writes that he is sorry that he could not "bring a couple with him". What is meant is unknown. He writes that he hopes Lydia is well at home and that she will say hello to Gilbet and John.

Lydia Davies was 16 at the time and lived at the address with her parents and five siblings.

According to Royal mail, it is most likely that the postcard ended up back in the system rather than that it had been lost with them for 121 years.

The development of AI
Extreme weather threatens promises of quick deliveries

American companies such as Amazon and Walmart are using artificial intelligence to investigate how climate-related weather events may affect delivery times. NBC reports.

The channel writes that the promise of deliveries within two days of ordering is threatened by extreme weather such as drought and massive snowfall. Walmart has therefore developed a tool that simulates weather and identifies potential problems. With the help of that, it can then be decided whether stock items should be redistributed, stores closed or if drivers should take alternative routes.

Weather-related supply chain disruptions are estimated to cost the industry around $100 billion this year alone.

Thousands of protected mussels were crushed and suffocated

Stora Enso is suspected of a serious nature conservation offense after its forest machines drove over the nature conservation-classified river Hukkajoki in eastern Finland. The machine is said to have crossed the river up to 400 times and killed thousands of endangered river pearl mussels, writes Yle.

Some were crushed, many others suffocated when the water turned muddy, Iltalethi writes. According to Svenska Yle, this may be the worst nature conservation crime in Finland's history.

Stora Enso's forest manager Janne Partanen describes the environmental damage as shocking. Now the Swedish-Finnish forest company risks millions in fines.

- Our process has failed miserably and the result is really serious, he says.
