Sources: Chinese hackers are spying on thousands of US citizens

China has hacked several US internet providers and through them is spying on thousands of US citizens. That's according to a number of security sources the Washington Post spoke to.

According to the newspaper, it is unclear exactly what information the hackers are looking for, but the fact that they have used previously unknown security holes indicates that the mapping has a high priority. When a weakness in digital security has been used by hackers in high-profile breaches, it can often be discovered and plugged.

China's embassy in the U.S. denies the reports, saying it has seen signs that U.S. intelligence agencies, along with cyber security companies, are spreading lies about China to get more government money and more missions.
