No announcement - but a hint of claimed restrictions

There was no formal announcement that Ukraine would be allowed to use long-range weapons against targets in Russia when US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and British Foreign Secretary David Lammy visited Kyiv.

However, Blinken gave the clearest hint so far that the United States is about to lift restrictions on how its weapons are used, according to The Guardian. Blinken said that the United States "from day one" has been willing to adapt its policy as the situation on the battlefield changes.

- It is something we will continue with.

He also said that he and Lammy will now go home and report to their "bosses" Joe Biden and Keir Starmer.

Lammy said it is the Iranian shipments of robots to Moscow that have changed the game.

- It is Putin who is escalating [...] We see a new alliance with Russia, Iran and North Korea.

Russian ship believed to be carrying Iranian robots

Satellite images show a Russian ship suspected of being loaded with Iranian ballistic missiles docked in the Russian region of Astrakhan in the Caspian Sea. This is reported by CNN and Sky News.

The pictures come from Maxar Technologies and were taken on September 4.

Several media outlets have recently reported that Iran has begun supplying Russia with short-range robots, which is seen as a significant escalation of Iran's support.

Pardoned for fighting for Ukraine until the end of the war

The father of five, Vitaly, 41, has been in prison for ten years in his native Ukraine. But after 21 days of military training, he has been back at the front in Pokrovsk for a few months, reports CNN.

He is one of fifteen recently released prisoners of the Shkval Battalion who are ready to fight as an infantry soldier in exchange for their freedom. The catch is that the contract runs until the war is over. The number of casualties among infantry soldiers is also significantly higher than among other militaries.

The 41-year-old tells CNN that he had to "turn the page". At the same time, the new life is tougher than he thought.

- My life was a mess. It is better to come in handy here. [...] Life is hard here, it's fun... but I didn't think it would be this hard.

Disinformation in Russia about Swedish reconnaissance flights

In the Russian media, a Swedish reconnaissance aircraft is accused of involvement in a Ukrainian drone attack in the Murmansk area. "Pure misinformation," states the Swedish Armed Forces for Aftonbladet.

According to the Kremlin-loyal Telegram channel Mash with three million subscribers, the Swedish plane guided two Ukrainian drones. Another Swedish aircraft is mentioned by the channel.

Linus Ehn, on-duty communicator at the Armed Forces, tells SvD that it is part of the normal picture that you are up and flying with different types of aircraft.

- But that it would have a purpose like this is of course not true, he says.

Russia pardons prisoners - then serious crime increases

The number of serious crimes in Russia has increased sharply since prisoners began to be pardoned in exchange for their enlistment in the military, the Moscow Times reports.

Over 400,000 serious crimes were reported in the country up to and including August this year. It is the highest figure for the corresponding period since 2011. It is not certain that the increase is linked to the releases, but according to the newspaper they coincide in time.

Exactly how many former prisoners have been freed to take part in the fighting in Ukraine is unclear. The BBC has previously reported that it could be at least 50,000 people.

At the same time, Russia has tightened the requirements for prisoners who enlist. Previously, they were pardoned after six months. Now contracts are signed that are valid until the so-called "military special operation" - that is, the war - is finished.
