The Israeli military says it has begun attacking targets in southern Lebanon in new airstrikes.

The attacks are in retaliation for what Israel calls a “blatant violation” of the ceasefire by Iran-backed Hezbollah. The military does not say what Hezbollah is accused of doing.

The attacks were prompted by an Israeli evacuation order from the Lebanese village of Al-Mansoui in southwestern Lebanon.

Negotiations between Israel and Lebanon, with the United States as mediator, are underway in the Italian capital Rome and will, among other things, discuss the disarmament of Hezbollah and the withdrawal of the Israeli military from southern Lebanon.
