Trump's lawyer moves forward towards the ministerial post

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, who was previously Donald Trump's lawyer, is taking another step towards the ministerial post, American media reports.

The US Senate Judiciary Committee voted through Blanche during the day by twelve votes to ten.

The process has been complicated by the fact that two Republican senators refused to vote for Blanche. The senators did not give up until Blanche promised not to move forward with a controversial multi-billion dollar fund that will compensate people who say they have suffered harm during Joe Biden's presidency. On Sunday evening local time, Blanche confirmed that "without a doubt there is no fund".

Climate activist: “What I hear is that people are impatient”

Democratic voters are tired of the party establishment and the party's chosen line. This is what climate activist William Lawrence, who hopes to become the Democratic candidate for the House of Representatives in his district in Michigan, tells NPR.

Critics say that Lawrence's progressive stance may work in a primary election that mainly affects Democrats, but that he would have no chance if he had to face Republican opposition and a broader voter base in the midterm elections.

Lawrence sees it, not unexpectedly, just the opposite.

– What I hear is that people are impatient. They are ready for change and they don't feel that either party has represented them in Congress.

Five primaries in one day – a battle between the Democrats’ right and left

On Tuesday, no fewer than five different primaries will be held in five different American states, and in several of them the battle between progressive and more moderate Democrats has taken center stage, according to reports in several media outlets.

The most talked about is the primary election in Michigan. There, the party establishment’s candidate Haley Stevens will face left-wing challenger Abdul el-Sayed. The winner will in turn face Republican Mike Rogers in the fall.

The tone is high, partly because Michigan is seen as a key state for the Democrats’ hopes of winning back the Senate in the midterm elections in November.

In the fight for the House of Representatives in the same state, climate activist William Lawrence hopes that his two colleagues Matt Maasdam and Bridget Brink will divide the more right-wing Democratic voters between them – and thus pave the way for a victory for him.

The Democrats' choice of path between right-wing and left-wing representatives is also noticeable in Missouri.

There, progressive Cori Bush hopes to regain her former seat in the House of Representatives from her moderate party colleague Wesley Bell.

Primary elections are also being held in Washington, Kansas and Virginia.
