Lula furious after diplomatic visa revoked
The Brazilian government is sharply criticizing the United States after the country revoked the visa of Brazil's ambassador to Washington.
"Today's decision is not an isolated incident. It is part of a deliberate escalation of hostile actions against Brazil, motivated by ideological reasons," Brazilian President Lula da Silva's office wrote in a statement.
The United States justified the action by saying that Brazil had denied visas to two employees of the US State Department. Brazil is also accused of delaying approving Trump's choice as ambassador to the country, sources reported to the BBC and AFP.
However, Brazil's ambassador to Washington has not been declared persona non grata or forced to leave the United States, according to AFP.
In parallel, a dispute is also ongoing with Argentina after President Javier Milei called his Brazilian counterpart a “thief” and “lawbreaker.” Brazil has recalled its ambassador and stated on Tuesday that the diplomatic presence in Argentina will be reduced.
