Sources: Iran and Oman close to agreement on Strait of Hormuz
Iran and Oman have taken steps towards opening the Strait of Hormuz, anonymous sources tell the AP.
The two nations have held talks in recent days that primarily concern which routes in the strait commercial ships should be allowed to take.
According to the sources, the countries appear to be approaching an agreement that ships should sail into the Persian Gulf via an Iranian-controlled route and out via an Oman-controlled route. Fees will be charged for "safety and preservation of the maritime environment".
However, the sources emphasize that negotiations are still ongoing.

Iran is considering allowing European countries to clear mines in the Strait of Hormuz, Bloomberg reports, citing sources. Such an agreement could pave the way for normalization of shipping through the waterway, the news agency further writes.
According to official Iranian statements, outside countries will not be allowed to clear mines in the area. The country's foreign minister has not commented on the latest source information.
Earlier on Tuesday, the US secretary of state said that talks are underway with Iran, something that the other party has not confirmed.
