🇹🇭 เวลาเกือบอาทิตย์ได้ผ่านไป นับตั้งแต่เพื่อนของผม วันเฉลิม สัตย์ศักดิ์สิทธิ์ ถูกรวบตัวโดยชายติดอาวุธหลายคนในประเทศกัมพูชา
หลังจากที่ต้าร์โดนอุ้มหายไปใหม่ๆ ผมไม่อยากบอกว่า ผมรู้จักเขา เพราะผมมีความหวังริบหรี่อยู่ว่า เขาอาจจะยังมีชีวิตอยู่ ผมจึงไม่อยากพูดอะไรให้เป็นการเพิ่มอันตรายให้เขามากขึ้นไปอีก

มาถึงตอนนี้ มันค่อนข้างจะชัดเจนว่า เขาถูกฆ่าไปแล้ว ในการล่าสังหารสั่งตรงมาโดยกษัตริย์วชิราชงกรณ์ และควบคุมการปฏิบัติการโดยหัวหน้าองครักษ์ของเขา จักรภพ ภูริเดช
ผมจึงอยากที่จะเขียนอะไรบางอย่างอุทิศให้เพื่อนของผม
ผมพักอาศัยอยู่ในประเทศกัมพูชาอยู่ปีนึง ในพศ 2557 ในขณะที่ผมกำลังเขียนหนังสือเรื่อง “ราชอาณาจักรใต้วิกฤตการณ์” ผมไปถึงที่นั่นในเดือนมกราคม 2557 แล้วเราเช่าบ้านพักที่ถนน อับดุล คารีม หรือที่เรียกว่า ถนน 21
หลังจากรัฐประหารในปี คศ 2557 นักวิชาการและผู้เห็นต่างหลายคน ต้องหนีลี้ภัยออกจากประเทศ เพื่อเลี่ยงการถูกจำคุกโดยฝ่ายรัฐประหาร
สมัยนั้น ประเทศกัมพูชา เป็นที่ซ่อนตัวที่ปลอดภัย เพราะเผด็จการเขมร ฮุน เซ็น เป็นเพื่อนกับ ทักษิน ชินวัตร จึงอนุญาตให้ผู้ลี้ภัยชาวไทยมาอาศัยอยู่ในประเทศ ในเวลาที่พวกเขากำลังรอที่จะเดินทางไปลี้ภัยต่อ ในยุโรป ออสเตรเลีย นิวซีแลนด์ หรือสหรัฐอเมริกา
ลาวเป็นทางตันที่เสี่ยงอันตรายเกินไป และการหนีไปฝั่งพม่าก็ยิ่งยากลำบากอยู่มาก ดังนั้น หนทางที่ปลอดภัยที่สุด ก็คือการผ่านไปทางกัมพูชา
ในตอนนั้น ต้าร์ เป็นตัวหลักที่ช่วยจัดการหาทางหนี ให้คนที่ลี้ภัยออกมาจากเมืองไทย เขาได้ช่วยหลายต่อหลายคนให้เดินทางออกไปโดยสวัสดิภาพ ทุกๆคนที่หนีออกจากประเทศไทยผ่านกัมพูชา ในปี พศ 2557 รู้จักต้าร์กันทั้งนั้น เขาเป็นคนลงมือช่วยทุกๆคน
รัฐบาลไทยกำลังโกหกหน้าด้านๆว่าพวกเขาไม่รู้ว่าต้าร์คือใคร พวกนั้นรู้ดีว่า เขาได้ช่วยผู้ลี้ภัย และกระบวนการต่อสู้เพื่อประชาธิปไตยอย่างไร
ผมได้รู้จักเขาหลังจากรัฐประหาร เขาได้ช่วยเพื่อนของผมหลายคนที่กำลังตกอยู่ในสภาวะอันตรายเป็นอย่างยิ่ง พวกเขาได้รอดปลอดภัยมาได้ก็เพราะต้าร์ สักวันหนึ่ง ผมหวังว่า ผมจะสามารถเล่ารายละเอียดทั้งหมด ว่าต้าร์ได้ทำอะไรลงไป เพื่อช่วยเหลือคนที่ตกอยู่ในอันตราย
ต้าร์เป็นคนนิสัยดีมาก คิดอะไรแต่ในทางบวกและยิ้มได้ตลอดเวลา เขาต้องการทำทุกอย่างเพื่อช่วยคนอื่น เขาเป็นคนกล้าหาญที่เสี่ยงภัยอย่างมากให้ตัวเอง เพียงเพื่อช่วยเหลือผู้อื่น แต่เขาไม่เคยโอ้อวดตัวแม้แต่น้อย เขาเป็นปัญญาชนที่มีใจเปิดกว้าง และเหนืออื่นใดทั้งสิ้น เขาเป็นคนมีใจกรุณา
ผมไม่เคยได้ยินเขาพูดถึงใครในทางชิงชังรังเกียจ เขามีความตื่นตัวทางการเมืองสูงมาก และต้องการช่วยให้ประเทศไทยไปสู่ระบอบประชาธิปไตย เขาไม่ได้เกลียดใครเลย
เขาได้ใช้ความสามารถอย่างดีที่สุดเพื่อช่วยคนอื่น และช่วยประเทศไทย ทำงานแบบปิดทองหลังพระโดนไม่หวังชื่อเสียง หรือสร้างความร่ำรวยให้ตัวเอง
หลังจากปี พศ 2557 ประเทศกัมพูชาก็ไม่ปลอดภัยเหมือนเดิมอีกแล้ว ความสัมพันธ์ของฮุนเซ็น กับฝ่ายกุมอำนาจปกครองไทย กลับมากระชับแนบแน่นยิ่งขึ้น และฝ่ายปกครองหลายประเทศในภูมิภาคเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ ก็เริ่มให้ความร่วมมือจับตัวผู้ลี้ภัยส่งกลับไทย สายลับนักสืบจากไทย เริ่มเข้ามาปฏิบัติการในกรุงพนมเปญกันเป็นจำนวนมาก
ผมออกจากกัมพูชาตอนปลายปี 2557 ผู้ลี้ภัยทางการเมืองชาวไทยที่นั่นเกือบทั้งหมด ก็หาทางออกจากเขมรในอีกสองสามปีต่อมา เพราะมันไม่ปลอดภัยสำหรับพวกเขาเสียแล้ว
แต่ต้าร์ยังคงอยู่ต่อ เขามีโอกาสหลบหนี ไปรับสถานะผู้ลี้ภัยในประเทศที่ร่ำรวยกว่านี้ แต่เขาต้องการอยู่ต่อในกัมพูชา และวางแผนที่จะตั้งธุรกิจอุตสาหกรรมการเกษตร เขาไม่ได้ทำร้ายใคร ทุกๆครั้งที่ผมได้คุยกับเขา เขาไม่เคยบ่น มีแต่พูดเรื่องดีๆอยู่เสมอ
มาบัดนี้ เขาถูกอุ้มหายไปแล้ว เพราะวชิราลงกรณ์ต้องการสื่อเจตนาที่จะกำราบคน ต้าร์เป็นเป้าที่เข้าถึงได้ง่ายเพราะเขายังอยู่ในประเทศกัมพูชา ผมไม่คิดว่า เราจะมีโอกาสได้เจอเขามีชีวิตอยู่อีกแล้ว
เขาคือฮีโร่วีรชนที่แท้จริง ฉลาดมีไหวพริบ คุยตลก ใจกล้าและมีน้ำใจเหลือล้น ผมจะไม่ลืมเขาเลย

🇬🇧 It’s almost a week since my friend Wanchalearm Satsaksit was seized by armed men in Cambodia.
After Tar was kidnapped, I didn’t want to say that I knew him, because I thought there was a small chance he was still alive, and I didn’t want to say anything that could put him in more danger.
But by now, it seems clear he was killed, in an assassination ordered by King Vajiralongkorn and organised by his security chief Jakrapob Bhuridej.
So I want to write something about my friend.
I lived in Cambodia for a year, in 2014, while I was writing my book “A Kingdom in Crisis”. I arrived there in January 2014 and we lived in a house in Rue Abdul Carime, also called Street 21, in Phnom Penh.
After the coup in May 2014, many people fled Thailand to avoid being imprisoned by the junta.
At that time, Cambodia was a safe haven, because Khmer dictator Hun Sen was an ally of Thaksin Shinawatra, and allowed Thai refugees to live in the country while they were awaiting safe passage to claim asylum in Europe, Australia, New Zealand or the United States.
Laos was a dangerous dead end, and escaping through Myanmar was also very difficult, so the only safe route was through Cambodia.
Tar was the main person who helped arrange the safe escape of people fleeing Thailand. He helped many people get to safety. Everybody who fled Thailand through Cambodia after the 2014 coup knows Tar. He helped all of them.
The Thai government are lying when they say they don’t know who he is. They know what he did to help refugees and help democracy.
I got to know him after the coup, when he came to live in Phnom Penh, and he helped some friends of mine who were in a very dangerous situation. Their safety is thanks to him. One day, I hope I can tell the whole story of what he did to help people in danger.
Tar was a great guy. He was always positive and smiling. He wanted to do whatever he could to help people. He was very brave and put himself in a lot of danger to help others, but he never boasted about it. He was smart, and talented, and open-minded, and above all he was kind.
I never heard him say anything hateful about anyone. He was very politically aware, and he wanted to help Thailand become a democracy, but he didn’t hate anyone.
He was doing his best to help others and help Thailand, working behind the scenes without seeking fame or wealth.
In the years after 2014, Cambodia became much less safe. Relations between Hun Sen and the junta improved, and the regimes in Southeast Asia began cooperating to capture exiled dissidents. A lot of Thai spies and agents began operating in Phnom Penh.
I left at the end of 2014, and almost all of the Thai political exiles left too over the next few years. It was not safe in Cambodia any more.
But Tar stayed. He had the chance to escape and get asylum in a rich country, but he wanted to stay in Cambodia and planned to start an agricultural business. He had many plans and ideas. He wasn’t harming anyone. Every time I talked to him, he was always positive, he never complained.
Now he has been kidnapped because Vajirakingkorn wanted to send a message, and he was the easiest target because he was still in Cambodia. I don’t think we will ever see him again.
He was a real hero, funny and smart, brave and kind. I’ll never forget him.
