Russia: Peace talks in Saudi Arabia doomed
The Kremlin has spoken out about this weekend's peace talks in Saudi Arabia, in which Ukraine and some 40 countries - including China, India and Brazil, but not Russia - are participating, Sky News reports.
Deputy Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ryabkov calls it "a reflection of the West's attempts to continue the futile, doomed attempts to mobilize the international community" around what he calls the "Zelensky formula," according to state news agency Tass.
Ukrainian President Zelensky hopes that the talks will gain support for his ten-point peace plan, which includes, among other things, that Russian forces must leave Ukrainian soil completely.

China is said to support more peace talks on Ukraine
China is said to support a third round of peace talks for Ukraine, writes The Guardian. This after the meeting held in Saudi Arabia this weekend where a framework agreement for peace in Ukraine was discussed. High-ranking officials from around 40 countries were present at the meeting.
China's participation in the meeting is seen by the West as a great success because it is considered to have an important role in being able to influence Russia, according to experts. The country had been invited to the peace talks in Copenhagen in June but then chose not to participate.

The first day of the two-day peace meeting in Saudi Arabia has "absolutely not" paved the way for direct talks between Ukraine and Russia, a French source told AFP.
- It is long-term work.
Henrik Landerholm, the government's national security adviser and Sweden's representative on the ground, writes in comments to SVT and TT that the days give Ukraine the opportunity to reach out to countries such as China and Brazil.
"It is positive that that dialogue is being strengthened, and there is consensus that it should continue beyond today's meeting."
According to documents obtained by Politico, the meeting points are summarized in ten headings, and concern, among other things, the release of prisoners of war and a possible war tribunal.
Russia is not invited and the Saudi meeting has been described as a way to rally support for Ukraine's peace demands ahead of future negotiations with the Kremlin.
