Methane gas leak as big as emissions from 717,000 cars
One of the worst methane gas leaks ever recorded occurred last year in a remote part of Kazakhstan. This is reported by BBC Verify.
The release of a total of 127,000 tonnes of gas started during drilling and continued for six months. The environmental impact is comparable to driving 717,000 petrol cars for a year.
According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), methane accounts for approximately 30 percent of global warming.

IPCC chief: "Make farmers part of the solution"
For climate change to become possible, politicians must win the trust of their citizens. That is the firm opinion of Jim Skeas, head of the UN climate panel IPCC.
In an interview with Studio Ett, he cites Europe's farmers as an example, who in recent weeks have protested against the consequences of costly climate measures.
- It is very important that farmers feel that they are part of the solution and not part of the problem. There is much that can be done in agriculture that benefits both the climate and the farmers themselves, he says.
