The EU's climate plan contains a "gift to farmers"
At the same time as the EU presented its new climate plan, farmers across Europe are demonstrating for better conditions, writes Politico. In the original EU plan, there was a proposal to halve the amount of pesticides in agriculture by 2030, but when the plan was presented, the proposal was gone.
"A gift to the farmers", writes the newspaper.
The restriction of pesticides is one of many issues that have caused the farmers to demonstrate. In cities such as Paris, Brussels and Berlin, they have stopped traffic with tractors and hay, which has been dumped on the streets.
The EU's climate commissioner Wopke Hoekstra says that the parliamentarians had a "fair transition" in mind when the plan was designed.

Bulgarian farmers join the demonstrations
The farmers' protests have spread in Europe and on Monday, Bulgarian farmers took to the streets of the capital Sofia, AP reports.
The farmers are demanding the resignation of Agriculture Minister Kiril Vatev as they believe he has not kept his promise to compensate farmers for increased costs and ease their administrative burden.
- Let me remind you that our interests were also not protected when Ukrainian goods took over the market, says Ventsislav Varbanov, chairman of the farmers' union.
In recent weeks, farmers in several European countries have demonstrated against, among other things, rampant costs and falling incomes.
