The British military watchdog for maritime traffic states that a cargo ship has been attacked by several small boats near the Strait of Hormuz.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations reported on Sunday afternoon that a cargo ship traveling near the strait had been attacked off Sirik in southeastern Iran. No one on board was injured on the ship, according to the British military organization.
No country or group has claimed responsibility for attacking the ship, whose designation or country of origin is unknown.
Iran claims full control over traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and says it allows ships to pass through – unless they belong to the US or Israel – if a fee is paid.
The US says it is blocking traffic to and from the strait.
