Trump: US Considering “Blowing the Shit Out of Iran”
Donald Trump is not satisfied with Iran’s latest negotiation proposal, the president said at a press conference on Saturday night.
According to the president, Iran wants to make a deal, but is having difficulty reaching an agreement internally. The US, for its part, is considering new powerful attacks, the president said according to PBS.
– Do we want to go and just blow the shit out of them or do we want to try to make a deal? Those are the options.
A ceasefire has been in place between the US and Iran since April 7. Negotiations for a longer-term peace have been slow, and Donald Trump said during Saturday’s press conference that he is not interested in an “early” end to the war.
Expert: Not the first time a president goes to war without asking Congress
No other president has had to ask Congress for approval to wage war for more than 60 days, Donald Trump claimed again late on Friday evening.
The BBC, which has gone to the historical archives and looked into it, writes that the situation surrounding the War Powers Resolution law is a little more complicated than that.
George Bush the Younger sought and received congressional approval for his wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, for example. Barack Obama, on the other hand, claimed that it did not constitute a war when a coalition of NATO countries entered Libya in 2011. That is why he never asked for permission, even though the fighting went on for seven months.
David Schultz, professor of political science and law at Hamline University in Minnesota, notes that presidents have had different views on the need for approval.
– But that does not mean that what Trump is doing is right and proper.
Iran: US Doesn't Care – Renewed War Likely
The resumption of war with the US is likely, says Mohammad Jafar Asasdi, one of the top names in the Iranian military. The statement was made in Iranian state media and quoted by Reuters.
– The evidence shows that the US doesn't care about any promises or commitments, he says.
Donald Trump announced on Saturday night that he is "not happy" with Iran's negotiating position, and that he is considering "blowing the crap out of them".
The two countries have been in a ceasefire since April 7, but negotiations for a permanent peace have been slow.
