Afterwards, the gold medalist received a hug from King Carl XVI Gustaf inside the Stade de France.
- I hope he liked the show, says Duplantis.
Queen Silvia sat with binoculars in the stands of the Stade de France and King Carl XVI Gustaf was, to say the least, engaged in Duplantis' Olympic final and flew up from his seat when
Duplantis passed the world record. - Damn what fun, it's crazy. A little bird told me he would be here. I tried not to think about it too much, says Duplantis.
"Mondo" promised before the competition that if the king were to be in place inside the Stade de France, he would
”go big”. "I think he said congratulations"
He did too – and afterwards the king and queen hugged the Olympic gold medalist inside the arena.
- I don't really remember what he said. I think he said congratulations, says Duplantis.
He continues:
- I am very grateful that he was here and I hope he liked the show, I am very grateful that they came here and supported me. It means a lot to me to have all the Swedes here in the arena. It's special.
