Biden promises new robots and ammunition to Ukraine

US President Joe Biden has presented a new military aid package to Ukraine, reports AFP. It includes, among other things, ammunition, anti-aircraft robots and anti-tank robots.

- Russia will not emerge victorious from this conflict, the free people of Ukraine will prevail. And the United States and our allies will continue to stand by their side all the way, says Biden.

Earlier on Friday, the US State Department announced new sanctions against nearly 400 individuals and 60 companies it says support Russia's war effort.

Lithuanian freedom fighter: The West turns a blind eye to the Russian threat

Lithuanian independence fighter and former president Vytautas Landsbergis worries that the lessons of the Cold War have been lost and that the West does not recognize the threat posed by Russia. He says so in an interview with Politico.

He is particularly critical of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who he thinks does too little to help Ukraine.

- Scholz probably understands that Putin must be stopped, but is not doing enough. This means that he unwittingly becomes an accomplice to a murderer, says Landsbergis.

Landsbergis was one of the organizers behind the "Baltic Way" freedom demonstration in 1989, when two million people held hands and formed a human chain of 60 miles through Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The purpose of the demonstration was to demand independence from the Soviet Union. It is seen as the beginning of the path to independence for the Baltic countries.

Modi urges Ukraine for peace talks with Russia

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is making himself available as a mediator between Ukraine and Russia, calling for peace talks between the countries. He says this in a statement during his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi in Kyiv.

- India is ready to play an active role in all efforts to achieve peace, says Modi according to Reuters.

The two leaders laid down stuffed animals at the Martyrs' Exhibition in Kyiv.

"I feel for the families whose children lost their lives," writes Modi on X.

He gave Zelenskyy a hearty hug, something that received wide attention in both Indian and Ukrainian traditional and social media. Modi was criticized for hugging Russian President Vladimir Putin as warmly during his visit to Moscow in July.
