Long queues for Moo Deng: "A cute little lump"

Pygmy hippopotamus Moo Deng's sensational internet fame has led to hours-long queues at the Khao Kheow Open Zoo outside Bangkok, AP writes.

The queues outside the zoo form several hours before it opens and almost immediately the hippo enclosure is full of visitors.

- She is a cute little lump. I just want to roll her up and eat her whole, laughs Areeya Sripanya who was there to see Moo Deng.

Moo Deng has become the subject of thousands of Internet memes in a short time. Everything from big sports clubs to international media and private individuals have shared pictures of the little hippopotamus.

The little pygmy hippopotamus Moo Deng has become a world celebrity in a short time. Moo Deng lives in a zoo outside of Bangkok, Thailand, and her rise to fame began with a naming contest on Facebook.

Moo Deng, which roughly means "bouncing pork", has taken the internet by storm since the competition and is the subject of thousands of memes, AP writes.

It was zookeeper Atthapon Nundee who started sharing pictures and videos of the little hippopotamus. He couldn't have imagined that she would be loved like this.

- I wanted people to get to know her. I wanted people to come and meet her, and see her on the internet. But I never thought it would be this big, he tells the news agency.
