The war in Sudan

Important aid does not reach the population of Sudan

Life-saving international aid is not reaching war-torn Sudan to the extent required, Reuters reports. Over half of the country's 50 million inhabitants suffer from severe hunger and hundreds die every day, the news agency writes.

In the last nine months, only one food delivery from the UN has been able to reach the population in the country.

Reuters has spoken to the mother of nine, Fleg, who went to a refugee camp in southern Sudan because of the war. She tells us that her mother is one of many who died of starvation.

- There are days when I don't know if I'm alive or dead, she says.

Women in Sudan fleeing war and rape

Several women who fled the fighting in the ongoing civil war in Sudan testify to severe rape. The BBC has interviewed a group of women who fled to Omdurman, which is outside the capital Khartoum. The area is controlled by the paramilitary group RSF, which has been fighting the Sudanese army since last year.

- When RSF arrived, we immediately started hearing about rapes, before we saw it with our own eyes, says "Fatima" to the channel.

Another woman, who is called Miriam in the article, says that she was raped by an RSF militant at the beginning of the war. Soldiers also allegedly tried to rape her two daughters, 17 and 10 years old.

Three weeks ago, the UN determined that both warring parties violated human rights and subjected civilians to rape and torture.
