The election in the United States

The election in the United States|The debates
JD Vance "more Trump than Trump" before the debate

The Republican vice-presidential candidate JD Vance has refined the art of arguing with journalists and made it his signature in the election campaign, writes The Guardian.

- In many ways, he is more Trump than Trump, says a former Republican Party employee.

Ahead of the debate with Democratic vice-presidential candidate Tim Walz, Vance thus appears to have turned around his rocky start and become an asset to the campaign, according to the paper.

However, opinion polls show that Walz is clearly the more popular of the two vice-presidential candidates.

- Vance will have to make a strong effort in the debate to regain his momentum, says Aaron Kall of the University of Michigan's debate association to Newsweek.

Walz's weakness before the debate with Vance: "Gets angry"

In the upcoming debate between vice presidential candidates JD Vance and Tim Walz, the former is definitely the one with more debate experience. This is written by the New York Times, which reviewed the material from Walz's previous debates that is available. The newspaper's conclusion is that Walz, who himself pointed out debates as his weakness, is not bad at all.

"He can deliver sharp criticism and exudes an everydayness that helped him become the Democratic vice presidential candidate," writes the newspaper, which, however, states that Walz has a major weakness in debates: He sometimes gets shaken and angry when his opponent lands a verbal hit on a weak point.

- He gets angry, but I don't think he goes crazy and throws away all his cards, says Melvin Carter, mayor of St. Paul who has known Walz for almost 20 years.

Suspect of assassination attempt against Trump denies

Ryan Routh, who is suspected of attempted murder after a thwarted attack on Donald Trump, formally denies any crime. This is reported by several media.

Routh has today appeared in a court in West Palm Beach, where he has had to state, among other things, how he stands up to the accusations.

The 58-year-old was arrested on September 15 in connection with one of Donald Trump's golf courses.

Routh's note on Trump murder evidence in court: "I betrayed"

Ryan Routh, who is suspected of attempted murder after the averted murder of Donald Trump, is expected to appear in court in West Palm Beach on Monday. Among the prosecutors' evidence is an earlier letter from Routh in which he refers to another assassination attempt on the ex-president, writes Reuters.

"This is an attempt to assassinate Donald Trump but unfortunately, I let you down," Routh allegedly wrote, according to prosecutors.

Among the evidence, there should also be a self-published book by Routh that directs strong criticism against the ex-president.

Routh's lawyers have previously described the letter as a way for their client to "get attention".
