Sources: Cuomo interested in mayoralty

Democrat Cuomo was seen as a star within the party, but had to leave his post as New York's governor after allegations of sexual harassment were leveled against him.

New York's current mayor Eric Adams has been charged with bribery on Thursday. He has announced that he will not leave his post, but resignation demands will probably be directed at him, writes the news site.

The investigation into Cuomo's harassment has been closed for lack of evidence, and the former governor has consistently denied the allegations. A spokesperson, however, dismisses the information.

Sources: New York mayor indicted

The mayor of New York, Democrat Eric Adams, has been indicted. This is stated by sources for several American media.

The indictment is part of a corruption investigation, writes the New York Times. It is unclear at the time of writing exactly what he is charged with.

"I always knew that if I stood up for New Yorkers, I would be a target - and a target I have been," Adams said in a statement.

Adams is the first sitting New York mayor to be charged with a federal crime.
