New fighting in Sudan - army attacks militia group
New airstrikes shake Sudan's capital Khartoum during Thursday, AFP reports. The Sudanese army is said to have attacked the militia group RSF in several different places in the city, including with warplanes.
According to witnesses in the capital, fighting broke out on Thursday morning. It is the first time in months that the army has launched a major offensive in the ongoing war.
The civil war in Sudan broke out last spring between the army and the RSF. Large parts of the country have been crippled by famine and disease.

Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs vandalized with red paint
The Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs' building in Copenhagen has been vandalized, Danish media reports. TV2 reports that red paint was thrown at the entrance during the night of Thursday.
Pictures from the scene show how political messages linked to the war in the Middle East were written on the walls.
No one has been arrested, writes TT and refers to the Copenhagen police. The entrance has been blocked off and patrols are on site.

South Korea's dog meat laws
South Korea wants to compensate for dog meat ban
South Korea plans to compensate farmers and others affected by the new ban on selling dog meat that will be implemented in 2027, the AP news agency reports.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture, farmers should be able to receive compensation of the equivalent of between SEK 1,700 and SEK 4,500 per dog if they agree to shut down their operations and hand over the animals.
The new proposal, which will ban breeding and slaughtering for the purpose of selling dog meat, was approved in January and could mean up to three years in prison.
Several farmers are worried that the ban will mean financial difficulties.

Many children dead after ritual bathing in India
At least 46 people, including 37 children, have drowned in connection with a Hindu festival in eastern India, local authorities told AFP.
The drowning accidents are said to have happened on different occasions since last Tuesday in connection with ritual baths during the festival.
Festival goers swam in rivers and lakes where water levels were dangerously high as a result of recent flooding.
The Jitaya festival is about mothers fasting for the well-being of their children.
