Over 100 dead in Nepal: "Likely to rise"

At least 101 people have died in Nepal following the widespread flooding caused by monsoon rains. AFP writes.

At the same time, over 60 people are missing, according to the local police.

- There will likely be an increase in the death toll as our search and rescue mission continues, police spokesperson Dan Bahadur Karki told AFP.

Since last Friday, large parts of the country's eastern and central parts have been affected, including the capital Kathmandu.

The government: Deploys the military in the rescue work

The government of Nepal is deploying "all security forces, including the military" in the rescue work after the floods and landslides of the past few days. This is what Interior Minister Ramesh Lekhak says according to AP.

- The government's highest priority right now is to save people and help those affected.

At least 66 people have died, another 60 people are said to be injured, and as many more are missing. The heavy rain that caused the floods is expected to continue until Tuesday, according to the BBC.
