US indicts three Iranians - allegedly hacked Trump
Three Iranian citizens are indicted in the United States, suspected of having participated in a cyber attack against Donald Trump's presidential election campaign. NBC News reports.
The Iranians allegedly managed to get into email accounts belonging to employees of the Trump campaign, and through them stole information. They then allegedly tried to share that information with the media and opponents of Trump. According to the indictment, there are no signs that the former Biden campaign should have responded to the hackers' contact attempts.
The three defendants are said to be members of Iran's Revolutionary Guard who paid "malicious cyber actors" to carry out the data breach itself.
Iran has denied any involvement in the alleged cyber attacks.
