Several explosions in Beirut - Hezbollah's headquarters are said to have been hit

Israeli military has carried out several attacks on Lebanon's capital Beirut, several media reports.

According to SVT, among other things, a Hezbollah headquarters has been met.

The Israeli military has confirmed that it carried out what it describes as a "precision attack" against targets in the city.

"Enemy warplanes carried out several attacks in Beirut's southern suburbs," states state-controlled media in Lebanon according to AP. Images circulating on social media show large clouds of smoke rising over the city after what appears to be a series of explosions.

Expert: The attack is asking for full scale war

Lebanon is more than just Hezbollah – therefore Israel's airstrikes on Beirut are asking for a full-scale war. This is what the Norwegian Middle East researcher Hilde Henriksen Waage tells VG.

The attack shows that Israel is not heeding the call of the US and France for a 21-day ceasefire, but is continuing with its stated goal of crushing Hezbollah so that residents of northern Israel can return to their homes, she continues.

- But even they themselves cannot believe that this escalation would lead to some kind of peaceful state for Israelis living in the north.

At least two people have died and 76 were injured in the attack, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.

Sources: Hezbollah's top leader the target of the attack

The target of Israel's attack on Beirut on Friday night was Hezbollah's top leader Hassan Nasrallah. This is stated by Israeli sources for Axios.

Sources close to Hezbollah state according to AFP that Nasrallah is "well" after the attack.

According to Axios, four residential buildings were hit in the attack. Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari states that Hezbollah built a headquarters under the buildings to "use them as human shields."

Al Jazeera reports that at least six and up to nine buildings "were either completely or partially destroyed".

USA: Despite talks between ministers - received no warning

The US was not warned in advance of the massive Israeli attack on a residential area in Beirut earlier today.
 This is reported by Haaretz.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and his American counterpart Lloyd Austin spoke by phone while the attack was carried out.

- We do not see it as a warning when it is already underway, says Sabrina Singh, press secretary at the Pentagon, to the newspaper.

At the same time, Iran's embassy in Beirut describes the Israeli attack as a "dangerous escalation" and threatens retaliation.

Saudi Arabia forms coalition for Palestinian state

Saudi Arabia has formed a new coalition with the aim of allowing Palestine to become an independent state without Israeli influence. This is reported by AFP.

The Saudi prince and foreign minister Faisal bin Farhan states from the UN General Assembly meeting in New York that the "international alliance for the implementation of a two-state solution" includes Arab and Muslim countries as well as "European partners". However, exactly who is included is unclear.

- Self-defense cannot justify the killing of tens of thousands of civilians, systematic destruction, forced displacement and the use of starvation as a weapon, says bin Farhan about the Israeli campaign in Gaza.

146 of the UN's 193 member states recognize Palestine as a state. The Israeli government is strongly opposed to a two-state solution, according to AFP.

Hezbollah leader: We will not abandon Palestine

Hezbollah will not change its attitude to the war no matter how many of its leaders are killed. This is stated by Hussein Fadlallah, the head of the organization in Beirut, according to Al Jazeera.

- We will not abandon support for Palestine, Jerusalem and the oppressed Gaza. There is no place for neutrality in this war.

Fadlallah was speaking at a funeral in Beirut at the same time as Israel's latest airstrikes. The attack is said to have completely destroyed several buildings and killed at least two people. According to the Israeli military, the target must have been Hezbollah's top leader Hassan Nasrallah.
