Landslide swept away small village: "Lost everything"

The small village of Lang Nu in northern Vietnam has been hit by a large landslide as a result of large amounts of rain in connection with typhoon Yagi. This is reported by AFP.

At least 30 people have died, including several children, and 65 are missing.

Hoan Thi Bay is one of the survivors. When the landslide happened, she ran out into the kitchen and clung to a pillar.

- I looked out the window and saw a large landmass coming towards me.

The chances of finding survivors are considered small.

- I have lost everything. My home, my belongings, everything, says Hoan Thi Bay.

The Red River is rising rapidly - Hanoi resident: "Worst I've seen"

The Red River flowing through Vietnam's capital Hanoi is rising rapidly, international news agencies report. Residents wade through waist-high water or make their way on homemade rafts.

"This is the worst flood I've ever seen," said Nguyen Tran Van, 41.

Police, soldiers and military go door-to-door along the riverbank in the capital, helping people evacuate from their homes.

The flooding follows the advance of Typhoon Yagi this weekend. The storm has now reached Thailand, where the authorities are warning of heavy downpours.
