Four US soldiers missing in Lithuania – reported dead

Four US soldiers and their military vehicle have disappeared after an exercise in Pabradė in Lithuania, reports LRT.

The four were reported missing on Tuesday at 4:45 p.m. local time. A major rescue operation has been underway, including by helicopter, and the scene of the incident has reportedly been found, according to a statement.

Lithuanian TV3 reports that the four have been found dead along with the vehicle in a swamp, and the information was later confirmed by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

 

NATO chief: Soldiers in Lithuania are dead

The four US soldiers who went missing after an exercise in Lithuania on Tuesday are dead, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte confirms.

“While I was speaking, news came that four American soldiers were killed in an incident in Lithuania,” Rutte told reporters after a speech, according to Reuters.

The four soldiers and their military vehicle were found in a swamp, according to information provided to Lithuanian TV3.
