The four US soldiers reported missing in Lithuania have been found dead, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte told NRK.
The soldiers were reported missing on Tuesday afternoon at 16.45 when they failed to return from a tactical warfare exercise.
According to the alarm, they disappeared together with their vehicle. Lithuanian media writes that it is some type of military tracked vehicle.
Swamp area
A massive search operation was launched and on Wednesday a location for the “incident” had been located.
According to Lithuanian media, the location of the discovery is a swampy area in the Pabradė military training area in eastern Lithuania.

The Lithuanian defense was tight-lipped about the accident, but information that the rescue service was also called to the scene indicated that the soldiers had likely met with an accident.
On Wednesday afternoon, NATO chief Rutte confirmed that the soldiers were dead in connection with a press conference in Warsaw, Poland.
The circumstances of the soldiers' deaths are still unknown.
