Marine Le Pen sentenced to four years in prison.

The court in Paris announced this on Monday.

She is also barred from running in the French presidential election in 2027.

Marine Le Pen, leader of the right-wing nationalist party National Rally in France, was sentenced on Monday in a French court to four years in prison for fraud and for embezzling public funds.

The court in Paris also announced that Le Pen is barred from running for public office for five years, according to Bloomberg.

Le Pen has been charged with masterminding a massive embezzlement of EU funds.

The court believes the total damage amounted to 2.9 million euros by allowing the European Parliament to “take responsibility for people who in reality worked for the far-right party,” writes Le Monde.

Le Pen is convicted along with eight other party colleagues.

A further 12 assistants are also convicted, for receiving stolen goods.
