South Korean Government Responsible for Adoption Fraud

The South Korean government is responsible for abuses in international adoptions of South Korean children, news agencies report. The government is also responsible for falsified records, inadequate consent processes from biological parents and insufficient vetting of adoptive parents, according to an official investigation.

The investigators recommended an official government apology.

“It was determined that the state neglected its duty, resulting in violations of adoptees’ human rights protected by the constitution and international agreements in the process of sending many children abroad,” the commission responsible said in a statement.

Over 140,000 South Korean children were adopted to other countries between 1955 and 1999.

After Brazil's former President Jair Bolsonaro was questioned by the country's Supreme Court, it is now clear that he will be put on trial for involvement in the coup attempt in 2023. This is reported by the AP.

Bolsonaro is also suspected of having systematically sown distrust in the electoral system, inciting riots and of having pressured high-ranking military officials to try to retain power, despite his loss to Lula da Silva.

Prince Harry stops working with charity in southern Africa

Prince Harry has stopped working with a charity organization he founded in southern Africa almost 20 years ago. He founded Sentebale in 2006 in honour of his mother, Princess Diana.

Together with co-founder Prince Seeiso of Lesotho in South Africa, the organisation works to help young people with HIV and AIDS in South Africa and later in Botswana.

Relations between the charity’s trustees and chairwoman Sophie Chandauka have deteriorated to the point where the founders are stepping down. The relationship has “broken down beyond repair,” they said in a joint statement on Tuesday.
