Trump's USA Ministers' war chat

Sources: Trump was angry about the saved number

Donald Trump was angry and upset when he learned that national security adviser Mike Waltz had accidentally invited a journalist to the infamous war chat on Signal, three sources with insight into Politico say.

- The president was furious that Waltz could be so stupid, says a source.

But the anger did not concern the possible leak of classified material because the operation was still a success according to Trump.

Trump was instead angry - and also became suspicious - that Mike Waltz had saved The Atlantic's Jeffrey Goldberg's phone number from the very beginning, the sources tell Politico.

According to Politico, the Trump administration is very suspicious of possible leaks to journalists.

Source with insight: Hegseth shared top secret information

Information shared by US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth in the Trump summit war chat was top secret at the time he wrote it. Especially since the operation being discussed had not yet begun, a US defense source with insight into the operation and other sources told CNN.

The defense source says that the information Hegseth shared is the type of real-time reporting that a commander typically gives his president in a strictly classified environment while the operation is underway.

– It is safe to say that anyone in uniform would be court-martialed for this, says the defense source, who believes that information of this type endangers the lives and safety of the soldiers carrying out the attacks.

The chat, to which The Atlantic's editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg was accidentally invited, was attended by Hegseth, among others, Vice President JD Vance and national security adviser Mike Waltz.

The leaders discussed an upcoming attack on Houthi rebels in Yemen, and messages in the chat included details about when fighter jets would take off and where certain targets were located.

Chat aftermath divides Republicans: "Own it"

Republicans disagree on how serious the leaked chat about the war plans is.

An article in Politico, which spoke to sources, says that the crisis management by national security adviser Mike Waltz has led to frustration. Calling The Atlantic's revelation a hoax is a stupid strategy, according to a person close to the White House.

- Own it, fire Waltz, move on, the person tells Politico.

Local politicians in his Florida district are backing Waltz. Zelma Cohen, vice chairwoman of the West Volusia Republican Party, says “in Washington, they get all worked up about everything.”

“We all know Mike and have a lot of confidence in him. Mike is a very capable person,” Zelma Cohen told the AP.

In the chat, people in Trump’s inner circle discussed an upcoming strike against Houthi rebels in Yemen, and the messages included details about when fighter jets would take off and where certain targets were located.
