Israel bombs targets in Beirut – first since ceasefire
Israel has attacked targets in the southern parts of the Lebanese capital Beirut. It is the first time since the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah was signed four months ago, several media outlets report.
The information comes shortly after the Israeli military issued an evacuation order for the Hadath area in southern Beirut, writes Reuters. According to the Israeli military, they would attack a building that they claim belongs to the Iran-backed militia Hezbollah.
L’Orient le Jour writes that there are panic-like scenes in the Lebanese capital.
Earlier on Friday, the IDF attacked targets in southern Lebanon after Israel said that Hezbollah had fired rockets at Israel, something the militia denied.
– If there is no ceasefire in Kiryat Shmona and the Galilee (in northern Israel), there will be no ceasefire in Beirut, says Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz.
Last weekend, at least eight people were killed in Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon, also after Hezbollah fired rockets at Israel, according to the IDF.

The UN mission in Lebanon is urging calm on all sides after Israel again attacked targets in the southern parts of the country.
UN spokeswoman Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert says Friday’s attacks are “deeply worrying,” writes AFP.
– A return to a broader conflict in Lebanon would be devastating for civilians on both sides, she says, adding that it must be avoided “at all costs.”
