Ministers' war chat
Judge in new row with Trump – demands chat excerpts
Federal judge James Boasberg, who is already on the warpath against Donald Trump, is making new demands on the administration, reports Fox News.
Boasberg wants all parties who participated in the high-profile war chat on Signal to preserve their messages, so that he has time to process how the administration handled the chat. In the chat, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth wrote detailed plans for an attack against Houthi rebels in Yemen, despite journalist Jeffrey Goldberg being invited.
Judge James Boasberg has previously opposed the administration when he demanded that the Venezuelan migrants who were deported to El Salvador be returned to the United States. He said that Trump's presidential order may have violated the law.
He has now been randomly assigned to the case of a lawsuit against the Trump top officials who were involved in the chat, he notes.
“How shameful is it that ‘Judge’ James Boasberg has just been given a fourth ‘Trump case’, something that is statistically impossible?” Trump wrote on social media after the announcement.

After the leaks: Stefanik will no longer be UN ambassador
Donald Trump is withdrawing Elise Stefanik’s nomination for the role of UN ambassador, he announced on Truth Social. The explanation is that Republicans have a slim majority in the House of Representatives and that Stefanik is therefore needed at home.
“The people love Elise, and with her we have nothing to worry about on Election Day. There are others who can do a great job at the UN,” Trump wrote.
In an interview with Fox News tonight, Stefanik says that she is “proud to be a team player.”
NBC News links the announcement to the chat leaks. In conversations after the announcement about Stefanik, Trump is said to have expressed frustration with national security adviser Michael Waltz, according to two sources. The anger boils down to the fact that Waltz's carelessness is creating a negative spiral ahead of important congressional elections - and to make Stefanik a UN ambassador and thus open up for another special election at that time would be risky.

The War on the Media
Funding of US-backed news channels resumes
The White House is reversing its previous decision and is resuming funding for the news channels Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty, reports The Hill.
This comes after employees sued the Trump administration and a federal judge ruled to temporarily halt the measure. The US-backed channels stated on Thursday evening that the funding is "back in effect".
The White House has previously claimed that the channels, which were formed to reach residents of communist countries during the Cold War, spread "radical propaganda".

Trump asks Supreme Court to overturn martial law decision
The Trump administration has asked the Supreme Court to once again be allowed to use a law from 1798 to deport Venezuelan migrants to El Salvador. This is reported by several media outlets.
The Alien Enemies Act has historically only been used in wartime but was invoked by Trump when the US deported over 200 alleged gang criminals Venezuelans to El Salvador in mid-March.
Federal Judge James Boasberg ordered the planes to turn around – an order that Trump ignored.
Boasberg later ruled that Trump may not use the law to deport Venezuelans to El Salvador.
