Expert: Outrageous – an unprecedented pressure
An unprecedented pressure on an ally. That's what US expert Jan Hallenberg tells SR Ekot after Friday's remarks about Greenland from Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance.
Outrageous, he says on Sveriges Radio's broadcast.
– This is not how you should behave towards an ally. It's unprecedented.
Hallenberg highlights how JD Vance, in a speech at a military base in Greenland, said that the self-determination of the Greenlandic population should be respected but that American control would be best.
– I find it very hard to believe that the US would be more successful because this man is standing there and preaching.

Vance slams Denmark: "You haven't done a good job"
US Vice President JD Vance slams Denmark during his criticized visit to Greenland. In a speech to soldiers at a US military base, he says that Denmark has not prioritized Greenland high enough.
Greenland is underfunded from a security perspective and Denmark has not “kept up,” he believes. Vance further says that Greenland is important to the US because of Russia’s and China’s interest in the Arctic.
– Our message to Denmark is simple – you haven’t done a good job.
Vance says that the White House respects the self-determination of the Greenlandic population but that they would be safer under the US security umbrella.
The Russian and Chinese interest makes the issue a priority for the US, says Vance.
– We cannot bury our heads in the sand and pretend that China is not interested in this large landmass.

Mette Frederiksen on Vance’s speech: “Unfair”
The US criticism of Denmark is unfair, says Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen after US Vice President JD Vance’s speech in Greenland.
According to Berlingske, she says that Denmark and the US have long been allies and have stood side by side.
– Therefore, it is an unfair way to describe Denmark.
In his speech, Vance said, among other things, that Denmark has done a “bad job” with Greenland’s security. In a statement, Frederiksen said that the Arctic region should be given higher priority and that NATO’s presence must be increased.
Frederiksen further said that it was important that Vance said that the US respects the self-determination of the Greenlanders.
