Orangutan rescued from raging fire in Indonesia
A female orangutan and her cub have been rescued from one of many raging fires in Indonesia.
After they were seen on a plantation near the burning forests in the province of West Kalimantan, authorities decided to evacuate the monkeys, just as the flames approached their habitat, reports The Straits Times.
They are said to have no visible injuries, but veterinarians fear that they may have suffered from smoke inhalation. So far, nine orangutans have been evacuated from the fires in the area in the past month.
The vast island nation has been battling several fires for several weeks that have spread extensive smog across Borneo and Sumatra – and air pollution all the way to neighboring countries.
In one of the rescue operations, water bombers were deployed on Saturday to stop the flames from spreading to the country's future new capital, Nusantara.
