Meloni celebrates milestone – record-long reign

On Friday, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni celebrated that her government had become the longest-serving in Italy's 80 years as a republic, reports AP.

In a speech to thousands of supporters in Bari, she described the cohesion of her government as the key.

– It is no coincidence that the three longest-serving governments in the history of the Italian Republic have been center-right governments. Stability is our first major reform, she says.

Meloni's government has been in power for 1414 days. The previous record-breaking government was led by Silvio Berlusconi for 1,412 days between 2001 and 2005.

Reform UK leaders suspended after donation scandal

The British far-right party Reform UK has found itself in a storm after two top representatives tried to accept donations from abroad, which is prohibited under British law, writes AP.

In a report by the investigative journalism network Verbatim, broadcast by Channel 4, a reporter pretends to be a British citizen whose wealthy American father – played by an actor – wants to give Reform UK a large donation.

Party leader Nigel Farage and his adviser Dan Jukes are filmed having lunch with the two men and discussing how the donation of 500,000 pounds (equivalent to almost 6.5 million kronor) could be channeled from his father to the party.

In another clip, the party's chief strategist James Orr is heard discussing the possibility that the donor is paying for opinion polls commissioned by Reform UK.

Farage dismisses it as "loose pub chat", but Jukes and Orr have been suspended from their roles.

Mourning after deadly US attack on wedding in Iran

Mourning and sadness prevail in the small Iranian coastal town of Kuhestak on the Strait of Hormuz after the deadly US attack on a wedding. The Guardian reports.

At least four people, including a child, were killed and around 60 injured in the air strike on September 1. The home belonged to a local fisherman, and the wedding was his daughter's.

US Vice President JD Vance said yesterday that the reports were being investigated. He expressed skepticism about them, but also added that "things happen sometimes".

“Iranian state media has not been a witness to the truth so far, so I am extremely skeptical about this,” he said.

The death toll is not reported by Iranian state media but by the Iranian Red Crescent, which belongs to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and is independent of Tehran.
