China's foreign policy
The proposal that could turn all Chinese into active spies
China
should set up systems to involve its entire population in its spy
network, the country's security ministry said in a post on the WeChat
communications platform, NBC reported.
An
introduction of a system that makes it easy for all citizens to report
suspicious activities, while allowing authorities to issue orders and
rewards, would be a start, it is stated.
"The
most important thing is to guard the leadership and power of the
Communist Party and the socialist system that characterizes China," Chen
Yixin, the minister in charge, wrote in a Chinese newspaper earlier in
July.
Since
the turn of the year, a new law has been in effect in China which means
that information that can harm "national interests" is no longer
allowed to leave the country. The US has warned that the law could be interpreted randomly.

Spy mess exposed in Taiwan - leaked to China
Taiwan is investigating several employees for having leaked military secrets to China, writes Reuters.
The Ministry of Defense in Taipei said in a statement on Wednesday that it had evidence against a group of military personnel - including a lieutenant colonel. The leaked information is said to have been handed over to representatives of the Communist Party of China.
The suspects are said to be both active and retired employees who belonged to the country's air force and special forces.
Two people have been arrested while four have been released on bail pending trial.
