Air pollution forces Bangkok residents to work from home
All public employees in Thailand's capital Bangkok are being asked to work from home for two days due to high levels of air pollution, Reuters reports.
According to the website Iqair, which measures the level of harmful particles in the air, the limit value is 15 times higher than WHO's recommendations. That makes the city the eighth most polluted in the world on Thursday.
- It gets worse and worse, there is too much smoke. My eyes itch because there is so much dust, and it's hard to breathe, says motorbike taxi driver Kornpong Poprakun.

Polluted air an increasingly widespread problem in Thailand
Northern Thailand has for several years had problems with air pollution due to planned burning of forests and residual products from agriculture, but in recent years the problems have also become increasingly worse in the Bangkok region, AP writes.
According to the government, 66 of Thailand's 77 regions have unhealthy air quality, and in 44 of these the air is considered very unhealthy.
In Bangkok, fossil fuel vehicles account for around a quarter of the pollution. Air quality has become a political hot-button issue, and the middle class in particular is increasingly vocal in its dissatisfaction.
