Kremlin: Ready to cooperate with US in space
The United States has not been in contact with Russia after alleged Russian plans for nuclear weapons in space caused concern in the US Congress, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told state-run Russian TASS, according to Reuters.
Peskov adds that Russia is ready to cooperate with the United States to develop anti-satellite weapons.
The White House has only confirmed that the threat intercepted by US intelligence concerns a "Russian anti-satellite capability" under development.
However, informed sources have told American media that it is more specifically about Russia wanting to place nuclear weapons in space - something the Kremlin dismisses as a "malicious lie".

Expert: Enormous risks of Russian nuclear weapons in space
If Russia were to detonate nuclear weapons in space, the explosion could knock out communication satellites, says Heather Williams of the CSIS think tank to Sky News.
- We have become so dependent on these for everything we do in our lives. It would really have enormous consequences, she says.
She adds that Russian nuclear weapons in space would violate the 1967 Outer Space Treaty, which is one of the few nuclear treaties that both the US and Russia still abide by.
According to information to ABC News, the national security threat that has been raised in the US Congress is about Russia wanting to place nuclear weapons in space in order to knock out satellites.
