More people are needed in the Danish defense. Now Denmark is preparing for and in an agreement across party lines, the defense will receive 120 billion kronor to ensure that it becomes so.

– But I will not lie to you that it will be difficult to recruit all those needed, says Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen.

After the recent deterioration in the security situation, there has been unrest in Denmark. Much has been about Trump's threat that he wants Greenland, which has been part of the country since the 1950s.

– Denmark's defense must be strengthened and it is urgent, says Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen in a press release.

In an agreement between the government and several of the opposition parties, an agreement has now been reached on a defense budget. A total of 120 billion Danish kroner will be allocated until 2033, of which 50 billion in an acceleration fund that will be used already until 2026. The money will go to accelerate the rearmament. This means that the Danish defense spending will end up at approximately three percent of their GDP.

One challenge that the Danish defense has had has been to get enough people into the defense. Now the defense leadership will take over responsibility for recruitment.

New conscription program

At a press conference on Saturday, Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen stated that a new model for civilian education will be presented shortly.

– It will make it more attractive to be employed in the defense, he says according DR.

A new conscription program will also be introduced and new military equipment will be purchased so that soldiers will be better equipped. The military facilities will also be upgraded.

“But I will not lie to you that it will be difficult to recruit all those needed,” he says.

In addition to bringing more people into the defense, the money will go to new investments within the defense forces and a restructuring of the organization in the Ministry of Defense to make decision-making processes more efficient.
