Meloni weighs the relationship between Trump and Kyiv in "acrobatics"

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has found herself in a dilemma where she is torn between supporting Ukraine's right to defend itself and maintaining a good relationship with US President Donald Trump. This is reported by the Financial Times.

Meloni's office has informed the G7 countries that she cannot attend this week's talks where the countries are to condemn Russia's aggression against Ukraine. According to the office, this is due to a double booking, but experts who have spoken to the FT believe that Meloni is trying to buy time.

Meloni is close to both Donald Trump and his right-hand man Elon Musk. By keeping the relationship intact, she hopes to get a key role in any trade negotiations between the EU and the US.

Donald Trump is urging his right-hand man Elon Musk to do more. In a post on the social media platform Truth Social, the president writes that he "would like to see him be more aggressive".

Musk is involved in the unofficial "efficiency agency" Doge, which is supposed to help cut federal spending. With Trump in the White House, several departments and agencies have been cut and tens of thousands of employees have been fired.

"Remember, we have a country to save and make stronger than ever before," he writes in capital letters.

Donald Trump uppmanar sin högra hand Elon Musk att göra mer. I ett inlägg på sociala medier-plattformen Truth Social skriver presidenten att han ”skulle vilja se honom bli mer aggressiv”.

Musk är inblandad i den inofficiella ”effektiviseringsmyndigheten” Doge som ska hjälpa till att skära i de federala utgifterna. Med Trump i Vita huset har flera departement och myndigheter kapats och tiotusentals anställda sparkats.
