Presidential election in Poland
Election in Poland – Donald Tusk’s life could get a lot easier

According to opinion polls, Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski, a centrist politician, will become the new president of Poland after Sunday’s election. That would make Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s life a lot easier and give him a “huge boost,” writes Politico.

The current president, Andrzej Duda, is loyal to the nationalist opposition party Law and Justice. This makes it difficult for Tusk to push Poland in a more liberal direction.

Law and Justice’s representative in the election, Karol Nawrocki, has encountered problems in the final stages of the campaign after allegations that he received an apartment in exchange for taking care of a vulnerable pensioner, after which he did not follow through on the agreement. His rivals have described him as a liar – and donating the apartment to charity has not helped. At the same time, he is popular among religious and conservative voters.

A total of 13 candidates are competing in Sunday’s first round. If necessary, the two top candidates will meet in a second round of voting on June 1. According to the BBC, a second round is likely to be required.

Presidential election in Romania
Mathematician at a disadvantage against ex-hooligan in

There are many indications that right-wing nationalist George Simion will emerge victorious when the second round of the presidential election in Romania is held on Sunday.

Simion won the first round in style and has a comfortable lead in opinion polls against mathematician and centrist politician Nicusor Dan.

Politico compares the election campaign to a schoolyard brawl. Simion, who has a past as a football hooligan, has repeatedly mocked the more correct Dan and called him autistic.

A victory for the Putin-friendly George Simion would also be a great success for Russia, which would thus gain another friendly politician within the EU and NATO.

– In Romania, which has traditionally been almost anti-Russian, the pro-Russian rhetoric is a big turn. And it is very attractive for Moscow to expand its influence in the Balkans, Fanny Wallberg at the Swedish Institute for Foreign Policy tells TT.

The development of AI
European leaders became AI babies during the summit

The European leaders received a somewhat bizarre welcome during Friday's summit in Albania, reports Politico. In addition to a song and dance number, the host country had made AI-generated clips in which the leaders were portrayed as little babies in costumes saying "welcome to Albania" in their own language.

Several of the leaders, including Sweden's Ulf Kristersson (M), took it in stride and were seen laughing at the clips. Others, such as Turkey's Recep Tayyip Erdogan, did not look as amused by their mustache-clad baby version.

In a speech after the clip, Italy's Giorgia Meloni thanked Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama for the clip making her "feel young again".

US Election  Biden's Dropout

Audio Clip Confirms Biden's Memory Gaps About Son

For the first time, audio clips from the interviews that special counsel Robert Hur conducted with Joe Biden in the investigation into how he handled classified documents have been released.

In the clip, published by Axios, a stuttering Biden can be heard straying from the subject and trying to remember when his son Beau died.

- Was it 2015? he asks his staff, who confirm that it was.

When Robert Hur published his report in February 2024, it hit the White House like a bombshell. He described Biden as "an aging man with a bad memory" and noted that the president did not remember when his son died. Something that Biden strongly denied at the time.

At least 16 people have been killed and thousands of homes have been destroyed as tornadoes have passed through the US states of Missouri and Kentucky in the past 24 hours, reports NBC News.

Among the hardest-hit areas is the multi-million city of Saint Louis in Missouri. There, at least 5,000 houses have been destroyed and 40,000 homes are without power, a major rescue operation is underway.

– All resources are being used to save as many people as possible, says police spokesman Mitch McCoy.
