Fires in Canada

Forest fire in Canada – thousands ordered to flee

More than 17,000 people in the Canadian province of Manitoba have been ordered to evacuate due to the forest fire raging in the country.

– This is the largest evacuation Manitoba has seen in living memory, says Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew at a press conference.

Military aircraft have been deployed to help with the evacuation from remote locations. In the town of Flin Flon, all 5,000 residents have been ordered to flee south.

The fire took off on Monday in the province of Saskatchewan and has since exploded in size.

Another province in Canada declares a state of emergency

The Canadian province of Saskatchewan has declared a state of emergency due to large forest fires. This comes the day after the neighboring province of Manitoba did the same and evacuated 17,000 people, reports AFP.

Last week, about 4,000 residents in Saskatchewan were evacuated, and it looks like more will be evacuated as no rain is in the forecast.

“Looking ahead, it doesn’t look good. It looks like it’s going to get worse,” said the province’s Premier Scott Moe.

There are currently 17 wildfires burning in the province, and only three are contained, according to CBC News.
