Drone alert at Munich airport halts 32 flights
Munich airport was forced to close late Thursday night after drone sightings. A total of 32 flights were affected and thousands of passengers were stranded. The news topped all German news sites on Friday.
It is unclear whether it was one or more drones, reports Tagesschau. Neither the drones nor any suspects could be identified and it is therefore unknown who is behind the incident. A police operation was underway during the night, but on Friday morning the airport was open again as usual.
Munich is currently experiencing a high tourist pressure due to the ongoing Oktoberfest celebrations.
Denmark: “High risk of sabotage against the defense”
Denmark is currently exposed to hybrid warfare from Russia, says the country’s Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen during a press conference about the new security situation, reports TV2.
– We will experience new attacks on Europe. Massive armament is necessary. Stronger unity is needed than ever before, he says.
As an example, he raises Russian warships that are said to have sailed on a collision course with Danish ships. Danish helicopters are also said to have had weapons pointed at them in Danish waters, reports Dagbladet.
Intelligence chief Thomas Ahrenkiel emphasizes that the recent drone alert over Denmark is a “gray zone” and that there is now a heightened readiness for provocations.
– We assess the risk of sabotage against Danish defense forces as high, he says, according to VG.
