USA: China has approved the sale of Tiktok
China has approved the sale of Tiktok's American operations, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in an interview on Thursday, according to Reuters. The transfer of ownership thus looks like it can be implemented, which means that the app can continue to be used in the United States.
- I would expect that it will continue in the coming weeks and months, and that we will eventually see a solution, says Bessent.
IT giant Oracle will become the new main owner in together with a number of venture capital firms. Current owner Bytedance will retain 20 percent.
This weekend, Bessent said in an interview with CBS News that the parties have agreed on the details of the deal.

- In September 2025, the US and China reached an agreement that allows Tiktok to continue operating in the US through a new US company.
- Oracle, Silver Lake and Abu Dhabi's MGX will become the main owners of American Tiktok and together control 45 percent of the company.
- Chinese Bytedance will retain 19.9 percent of the ownership and receive licensing revenues and at least half of the profits from the US operation.
- Oracle will be responsible for managing and monitoring Tiktok's algorithm in the US, while the algorithm will continue to come from China.
