6,500 forced to sleep at airport after drone alert
For the second night in a row, Munich Airport stopped all air traffic due to a drone alert. Around 6,500 travelers were forced to spend the night at Munich Airport, reports Bild.
“Beds were set up and blankets, drinks and snacks were handed out,” the airport wrote in a statement.
Pictures from the airport also show people lying scattered on the floor. It is difficult to get a hotel bed in the city due to the Oktoberfest festival.
At least two drones were sighted on Friday, but could not be identified. It is still unclear who is behind it and what the motive is.
Munich Airport closed again after new drone alert
Munich Airport has closed again on Friday evening for the second time in a day after “unconfirmed drone sightings”. The airport announced this on its website, reports Die Welt. Police are still investigating whether it was really a drone, but air traffic has been suspended as a precaution, writes Tagesschau.
The airport also closed late on Thursday after suspicious drone sightings. A total of 32 flights and around 3,000 passengers were affected.
Neither the drones nor any suspects could be identified. A police operation was underway overnight, but on Friday morning the airport was open again as usual.
