A US court has given President Donald Trump the right to deploy National Guard troops in Portland, despite opposition from the governor of Oregon.

The ruling gives the green light to plans to deploy 200 National Guard troops at federal buildings where Washington claims protesters are obstructing the work of immigration authorities.

The decision is in effect until further notice, while the legal process surrounding the appeal of Trump's decision continues.

He has previously deployed military forces in Los Angeles, Washington and Memphis, among others.
