The Israel-Hamas war|The negotiations

US summit: Netanyahu tries to prolong the war

A high-ranking representative of Joe Biden's administration, in an interview with Haaretz, paints Benjamin Netanyahu as a stumbling block in the ceasefire negotiations.

- Netanyahu is trying to prolong the war instead of focusing on how to reach an agreement on the hostages. That makes it difficult for us to continue supporting Israel in the long run.

According to the source, Netanyahu is "ungrateful" to the United States and shows no appreciation for the help he has received in the past ten months.

The source also describes Joe Biden's increasing frustration and feeling that Netanyahu is lying to him, and confirms earlier media reports that Biden, in a conversation between the leaders, asked Netanyahu to "stop talking shit."

Israeli defense chiefs and members of the negotiating delegation are also of the opinion that Netanyahu is not interested in a deal, according to Haaretz.

Biden's words to Netanyahu: Stop your bullshit

Joe Biden didn't mince his words when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited Washington DC last week. This is reported by the Israeli television channel Channel 12 according to the Times of Israel.

"Stop bullshitting me" - stop talking shit - the president is said to have replied when Netanyahu said that Israel is making progress in the ceasefire negotiations.

On Saturday, new negotiations were held in Cairo. They led nowhere, says a source with access to Israeli Haaretz.

- At this stage, the only news is that the delegation went to Egypt.

Haaretz also quotes a foreign diplomatic source as claiming that Netanyahu's demands "sabotaged" the talks.

New talks on ceasefire in Gaza after Haniya's death

An Israeli delegation, led by the country's intelligence chief David Barnea, flew to Egypt on Saturday to continue talks on a cease-fire agreement in Gaza. This is reported by Bloomberg with reference to sources.

The visit comes days after Hamas political leader Ismail Haniya was killed in Iran's capital Tehran, prompting the country's supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, to reportedly order a revenge attack on Israel.

Neither Benjamin Netanyahu's office nor authorities in Egypt have commented on Saturday's conversation. Yesterday, the Israeli prime minister said that Israel and Hamas still do not agree on some parts of the agreement.

The New York Times reports that negotiations may become more difficult after the death of the Hamas leader.
