Israel-Hamas war / The Israel-Hezbollah conflict

Israel-Hamas war The negotiations
UN: Neither Hamas nor Israel want a ceasefire

Neither Israel nor Hamas wants to see a ceasefire in Gaza. This is what UN Secretary-General António Guterres tells CNN.

- It is clear to me that both sides are not interested in a truce. And it is a tragedy, because this is a war that must end.

Hamas and Israel have repeatedly accused each other of sabotaging negotiations for a ceasefire in Gaza.

The Israel-Hezbollah conflict
Expert: This is undoubtedly an escalation in the region

The developments of the last 24 hours in Israel and Lebanon "undoubtedly involve an escalation", says Middle East expert Anders Persson to DN.

- We see it clearly from both sides, especially from the Israeli side in both frequency and magnitude with heavy aerial bombings against southern Lebanon, he says.

On Friday, at least 45 people were killed in southern Beirut in connection with an Israeli airstrike, and early Sunday morning Hezbollah struck targets deep in northern Israel. The rockets reached all the way to the big city of Haifa, and four people were slightly injured.

At the moment, there is nothing to indicate that the escalation will stop, rather the opposite, says SVT's Middle East correspondent Samir Abu Eid, who is on site in Tel Aviv.

- The only thing left then is a full-scale war. Israel and Hezbollah are in a war, but it could get much, much worse, he says in SVT's live broadcast.
